Hi All, As you've probably noticed on the main page of Clan Cameron Online, Lochiel has made the call for an International Gathering at Achnacarry, to take place in 2009. In case you haven't read his official announcement, here it is: I am delighted to announce that an International Gathering of Clan Cameron will take place at Achnacarry in late July or early August 2009. I hope to welcome many clansfolk from around the world at that time and we will do our utmost to arrange an interesting, worthwhile and happy few days
With very best wishes,
Donald Cameron of Lochiel
For those not familiar with an International Gatherng at Achnacarry, I'd recommend visiting our Archives www.clan-cameron.org/archives.html and reading the various accounts from 2001, including a newspaper article from the Oban Times. Approximately 175 North American Camerons (Cambrons, Cambruns, Taylors, Martins, Clarks, Chambers, Chalmers...) attended the 2001 Gathering. I'd like to echo our Chief's invitation, and to mention that this will be a generational event, one that will live on in your hearts and family legend long after you return from beautiful Lochaber. If you've been there before, you'll know what I mean. Those who haven't had the chance to visit yet, please consider making this trip - - you'll not regret it. I hope to see you at Achnacarry in 2009!

Tom I think it would be great if everyone planning to go was encouraged to take part in the DNA project. What a way to find family connections. Even better if Camerons in Scotland would take part, we might all find our true homes in Lochaber.

I would like to be there. My wife has a bad back and is clinically disabled, so the plane ride will not be fun for her.

Gaelgal, I don't know if you received any of my previous messages, but I was wondering how do I become a moderator? I've come across some subjects that might be of intrest to other members of Clan Cameron and I would like to get feedback on subjects I've posted. I mighthave sent something similer to this. I would appreaciate any helpyou can provide and I apologise ahead of time for any mistakes I've made as I'm still new at this. If I did make some mistakes let me know as soon as youcan so I wont make the same mistake again. Your Yankee Cameron Cousin ianjonefan (Jon C. Evans

Hi, Jon. I did get your earlier post... see where I asked you about the weather in Nebraska? (Messages, I have not received any from you.) Becoming a moderator of the board is something you would have to do through the owner of the board, and that is Tom Cameron. If you go to the beginning of this thread, you will see it was Tom who started this thread. You will need to discuss becoming a moderator with him. If you haven't done so already, browse the existing posts and threads and see if anything appeals to you. You don't have to be a moderator to start a thread, but do know that the moderators check threads and posts for subject matter, content, and activity. You are welcome to post to any of our existing threads or add one of your own for feedback. Keep in mind that there are several different moderators on this message board and posts (and readers) from all over the world. Welcome aboard! I am sure you will find this message board (and its website) interesting and informative!

Thomas,
I am very interested in going to gathering. Last time did everyone just go on their own or was there a tour group put together from the US? Driving on the right side of the road was one of the scariest things I've ever done and I was the passenger.

Bill,
In 2001 there wasn't a tour group from North America (or any of the other participating countries) that I was aware of. Now, there was a group back in the 1970s that toured together, but I don't have any details, and I believe it was a one time shot, so to speak.
I understand all too well that driving on the left hand side of the road fear - it was even more difficult for me to shift with my left hand!

My father and I have heard the call of Lochiel and eagerly await 2009. I would like my boys to attend but their grandmother says they'll still be to young. So she will watch them for me. I will have to bring back something nice for them from the Homeland. My father has wanted to go for the longest time ever since corresponding with the sorely missed 26th Chief Sir Donald Hamish Cameron of Lochiel KT. In fact the letters he received from the 26th Lochiel are some of his prized possessions. He also was generous and sent my father the book "The Cameron's A History of Clan Cameron" by John Stewart. My father never got to meet him in person unfortunately. He held him in the highest regard. We are however very eager to meet his son the 27th Lochiel and family for they hold a special place in our hearts has I am sure yours. He most certainly is as they say "A chip off the old block". Lochiel has done a tremendous job leading this ancient noble Clan in this very modern age. Let us not disappoint our Lochiel for he will never disappoint us. If you can make it I look forward to seeing you all there. Let us unite and show how strong we are after all these years. See ya there Brothers and Sisters. Aonaibh Ri Cheile Loyal Sept, Sean H. Sean,
There are usually a large number of children at the International Gatherings, so your boys would be most welcome (and they'd probably make some new friends along the way). I'd say that if they are Kindergarden or older that the trip would be a very memorable one. We keep mentioning that the Gatherings at Achnacarry are "Generational Events," and there's much truth to this. Anyhow, talk it over with their grandmother again - perhaps they're ready for the trip to Scotland!

Hi Thomas. Thanks for the reply. It's good to hear from someone finally. I would love my children to go with my father and I. One key point to bring up about my mother is that she is afraid to fly. Hence one reservation she has about my boys going. The other is that she thinks it would be a nice bonding experience between my father and I. You know pick up on some lost time we've had over the years. My kids will be ages 5 & 7 in 2009 so the age thing really hadn't been a issue for me. My father said he may make a push for her to come as well though so we'll have to see. I would love to have her and the boys with us. It would mean so much to me. You're right that it is an event that will be cherished in the hearts and minds and passed on thru the generations. Either way count on my father and I and hopefully more of the Chambers family to be there. ;D Aonaibh Ri Cheile Sean H. Chambers

Hey Thomas. It's good to hear from you. Thanks for the update and keep us posted for the fun stuff ahead of us. I'm looking forward to it. The only thing that stinks is waiting till 2009. It will be well worth it though. Aonaibh Ri Cheile Sean H. Chambers

Quick question: Do you have to be an "official" member of the clan to attend? I'm from the MacAloney sept but don't have an official membership yet, and don't know if I will by the time the Gathering comes around.
