To those who attended the last gathering I would like to have thier input what ther exoeriences were as far as what airline they traveled on, whether they had any problems. As the time for the gathering draws near I would like to be able to book a flight on a airline whith as less fuss as possible. The areas that I'm concerned with will my luggage reach my destination , arrival & departure times, and any other pertinent information. Also I would like to hear from those who attended the gathering thier impressions of the gathering itself. ianjonefan

Oops. Missed the Qu about getting married by the Lochiel while at the gathering. I don't know if that is possible or not, but I do know that you can get married in Scotland while you are there. Hmm... something to check into.

Greetings, A website dedicated specifically to the 2009 Gathering has been launched, and will continue to grow over the coming months. It is located at: www.clancamerongathering.orgAt this time there are already a number of wonderful resources located there, including a new distance and time listing, detailing how far it is from all reasonably close hotels and B&Bs in Lochaber to both Achnacarry and Fort William (since these are the two locations most want to know about). There is also a collection of Gathering Guides, a series of features written specifically for members of Clan Cameron, dealing with various issues that tourists may find useful. The series will be added to every other month, and at this time has detailed six out of its 15 planned "chapters." The most eagerly anticipated piece of information, a schedule of events, is now undergoing review by the members of the Gathering Planning Committee. Once Lochiel distributes it for all four international branches, you will also be able to find it on the Gathering website. We plan for this to be done by the end of 2007.

We have added a custom map on the Clan Cameron Gathering site, with key locations listed, along with times and distances between these and major roadway junction points. By no means is it designed to be a replacement for a local road atlas. Rather, it effectively "boils down" the general roadway information that members of Clan Cameron will need to know... Enjoy!

Hello Jon, I just hopped on quick and I see you are currently on the board. My father and I don't have all the details on the trip yet but we would love to meet up with you. Like you,we plan on touring about outside of the Gathering as well. It would be a thrifty savings to us all to share in some of the expenses and what better way to do it than with a fellow Cameron. Let me know and in the meantime I'll discuss things with my father. I believe in a previous post I gave you my contact info and it should be in my profile if not just let me know. I look forward to hearing from you. Slainte Gu Siorraidh Aonaibh Ri Cheile Sean H. Chambers

I am not a member of the association but I hope to use the gathering to return to Lochaber where I visited this past summer. It is enchantingly beautiful and add on that it is the ancestral home of the Clarks. Can someone confirm the gathering is family friendly and where I might join the association if I reside in Pennsylvania?

Greetings to our Clark Kinsfolk!
It's wonderful learning that you'll be attending the 2009 Gathering. It is most definitely family friendly, with something to offer all ages. There are children's activities in addition to adult, so kids are most welcome. Many of us had our children with us at the 2001 Gathering and they now have some cherished memories of the trip back to their ancestral "homeland."
To join the Clan Cameron Association's Mid Atlantic Branch (which covers events in PA) please contact our Eastern U.S. Regional President, Jim Cameron. Jim is at: jcameron@expertig.com
Don't forget to check back regularly at the Gatehring website (www.clancamerongathering.org). We'll see you in Lochaber!

Thanks to those who took up my offer of a ride share, & saying that they would like to meet up with me. For those that would like to meet me I will send you my itenery so we could better plan on how to meet.A little bit of information about Columbus Nebraska. Andrew Jackson Higgins the inventer of the :HIGGINGS BOAT: was born in Columbus. Here's the kicker whenI was invited too attend the Bagpipe Competition that was being held in Glasgow in 2004 I took a train to Spean Bridge hoping I could walk from there to the Clan Cameron Museum, but it didn't work out because of time restraints. So while waiting for my train trip back to Stirling I visited the :COMANDO MUSEUM: I was looking through one of thier brochures I came upon a picture of a :HIGGINS BOAT: After talking to the curator of museum I found out that the comandos used Higgins Boat for some of thier comando raids. It was a little weired seeing a picture of a Higgins Boat in a booklet on comandos. For those who are interested in:WWII COMANDO HISTORY:I can bring along pictures of the :HIGGINGS MEMORIAL and the HIGGINS BOAT: I have copies that I'm going to donate to the :COMANDO MUSEUM: for thier use as they see fit. ianjonefan(Jon)

My wife and I visited the UK in 2002 for our 40th anniversary and of course Scotland was the highlight. I returned in 2005 with my two sons and grandson. climbed Ben Nevis and hiked from Ft. William to Innverness and of course visited the Cameron Museum and ancestoral grounds and Culloden where many Camerons died in battle. My wife and I look forward to the gathering and will hopefully be bringing our eldest granddaughter, so she and I can stand on Ben Nevis's summit like I did with her brother, father and uncle. Is there going to be any scheduled bus service from Ft. William to the various activities?

Welcome to the Message Center!
I'm pleased to learn that you'll be attending the 2009 Gathering, and that three generations of your family will share in the many beautiful locations throughout Lochaber. Perhaps the sky will be clear as you stand on the summit of Ben Nevis - one can hope for that outstanding view.
I do not believe that there is, presently, a plan for bus service from Fort William, though I do know that taxis will be running quite regularly. However, this might change, so I'd encourage you to keep checking back to the Gathering website and also "registering your interest" via the website (www.clancamerongathering.org) so you might receive e-mail updates.
Once again, I'm so pleased to hear that you'll be joining us in Lochaber.

Here's an idea I have, I don't know if it'll work out , or not, but for those who are of the North American Branch of the Clan Cameron Associan how about those who are regional members of a Clan Cameron Associan send pictures that unique to your state, town, or province to tyour regional Clan Cameron Associan President. Then the president , and members of the board president, vice-president, secutary, treasurer, votes on the pictures to be put in a album that bests destribes their region. ianjonefan(Jon)

I might be making a mistake , but here goes. I'm looking for someone that would be interested in sharing the cost of an airline ticket ,& hotel , motel , & B&b's with me? That is all I'm asking. I know you will have your own itenery , and intrest. This way you'll have a place to stay , & have someone to travel with. I would be willing to fly to your area's international airport and we could meet each other there , and then fly on to the Gathering For more details email me at cu1745@yahoo.com
