Great article! I would like to see more of those planning on attending the Clan Gathering post their travel plans. My plans are all set and I look forward to seeing you in Achnacarry (and Edinburgh, too, for the Gathering 2009).

Hi I'm a complete novice to these forums and this is the first time I have added anything. I usually just read everyone's comments but we are in 2009 and so many of you are coming over to Scotland that I felt I must introduce myself. I'm a wee bit concerned re. advertising as you can see what we are from my name but my husband Dave Cameron and I live in Dunfermline, about 15 miles from Edinburgh and are going to the Clan Cameron Gathering in July/Aug and would love to meet up with some of you guys. He's learnt the pipes over the last few years and a few Cameron pipers down here are going up for the weekend. If you want to know anything more about us we are a link on the Clan Cameron Assoc. Scotland website and in the forthcoming Spring Newsletter. Its so exciting - I can't wait. PS If I've done this wrong can someone let me know. Maybe I'll do it again sometime.

Last night the Scotland Branch notified us that they have resolved the issue of donating funds for the Cameron Clansfolk Oak Grove via the Internet. They are now utilizing a service named Ticketweb, and the details are now up on their website: www.clancameron.org.uk/trees.html. As you may have heard, the plans are for ground to be broken on the grove this month (grading, soil preparation, excavation...early "prep work"). Any clansfolk (and chapters or branches desiring to plant an oak in honor of their membership) who are definite about donating might consider doing so at their earliest opportunity. At last check, a total of 11 trees had already been spoken for, out of a planned 30. We may be able to "up" plans to 50 trees (they are harder to come by than one might think) but at the moment it's only a total of 30 of these impressive oak trees. Those planning to attend the Gathering will also, now, be able to purchase their admission tickets via the Scotland Branch, at: www.clancameron.org.uk/tickets.html I'll close, but not before encouraging you all to check the website early next week - we have some wonderful changes coming for clansfolk, celebrating the Year of the Cameron Gathering.

Thomas:
Am finally getting my plans organized for Scotland. I understand I must join a branch of the association to attend, correct? I live in Pennsylvania and a number of months and one hard drive crash ago you were kind enough to give me a contact for the mid-atlantic branch. I would very much appreciate it so that my wife and I can attend. We have been to Lochaber before and were enchanted and not just because of the "field of the clerks/clarks" near Ben Nevis. Appreciate any help you can provide and hope to see you there.

Greetings,
I'm so sorry to hear about the hard drive crash! The Mid Atlantic Branch contacts are Jim and Sherry Cameron, at: jcameron@expertig.com
Just as a side note, those attending the International Gathering do not have to be members of the Clan Cameron Association. However, joining the association is the modern day representation of our clan, especially when it comes to the bonds of kinship. I'd encourage anyone out there with an interest in their heritage to seek out the nearest branch of Clan Cameron, What you'll find is a society of like minded and very friendly individuals who welcome everyone to their events, whether you're kilted or not.
We'll see you in Scotland!

I asked my travel agent to purchase mine and they were able to with no problem. Once they received them, they mailed them along with all of our other travel info.
My husband & I will be staying in Fort William as well at the Bank Street Lodge and would be happy to give you a lift.

Hi John,
The train from Edinburgh Waverly to Glasgow Queen Street Station takes fifty minutes. There are generally four trains per hour.
Unfortunately, there are only three trains per day from Glasgow Queen Street to Fort William (under the winter timetable at 0821,1221,and 1821),so these are the times you will need to co-ordinate with.Check the Scotrail Timetable for the exact summer season times.
At Queen Street ,the Edinburgh train arrives at the upper level of the station, whilst the Fort William train leaves from the lower.Give yourself about five minutes to walk to the lower level.
The West Highland Line was recently voted the most scenic railway route in the world by a respected travel magazine,so you are definitely selecting the best way to get to Lochaber!
Regards,Chris.

To those who are taking their first trip overseas there is one thing that you have to watch for when it comes to schedules of any kind . Based on my own exoerience when reading a schedule they're usually on a 24 hr. time cycle instead of a 12 hr. time cycle which means if it's 1:00 p. m. in the afternoon on the 24 hr. time cycle the schedule will have it listed as 1300hrs. & etc . Hope this information will be of some help to you .

For those who are taking their first international flight , here are some reminders , & suggestions . Make sure you have a up - to - date passport , arrive at airport at least 2-3hrs. before your flight to give you plenty of time to get through security , check airline that you are flying on for baggage information , If because of a medical condition you need to sit in a certain area of a plane go to seatguru.com , click on the airline that you are flying on , go to seating guide , then pick seat .Most major stores will take Debit , or Credit Cards , but there may be a few that you might need cash . Scotland has 3 banks . Bank of Scotland , Clydesdale Bank , and Royal bank of Scotland . Bank of Scotland , and Royal Bank of Scotland have their own currency . The last time that I was in Scotland their ATM's were called either , I'm not sure which Cashbox , or Cashpoint . Also make sure you have all your special passes , such as ScotRail , & etc. For weather reports go to weather .com and check weather for departure . arrival , and Cities that you'll be visiting at least 3 days before trip . Last always check with travel agent for any new updates in case you flight schedule has been changed , and other new information that they might have . . I also forgot to mention you should make a list of what you are taking on you trip . Make 2 copies one to take with you on trip , and the other to give to someone you trust . On lists put any medication you need , ( ask doctor for generic name ) Passport Number , and list of Hotels that you will be staying at in case someone needs to contact you .
