Hi All
Very new to this site and just starting to feel my way back into our roots in Scotland.
By the title of this post you will see that we come from a little north of traditional Cameron lands.
My line has settled in NZ having arrived there through Australia. We come from a long line of Alexander Camerons that as far back as I have got so far (3 generations into Scotland to around the time of Culloden) centered on the small village of Achlunachan, Lochbroom, Ross & Cromarty. This I believe is McKenzie country. I probably still have living relatives who will be decendant from my forefathers brothers in the area.
Not really sure what kilt I should wear - Obviously fathers side is pure Cameron, But also have Ross, Mcleod, Mckenzie in the mix.
When I was young I can remember what I now know as a Locaber axe on the wall in my Grandfathers lounge and been told it was used in the 'rising'.
Unfortunatly this was destroyed when the house was lost to fire but we did save the family bible with names and dates from the early 1600's.
My goal is to work back through the records and conect these early names back to the present day.
Looking forward to exchanges and learning of my history. Its an interesting looking site.
Its gratifying to me that my children are starting to take an interest in their roots and my eldest two have taken up Scotish country dancing. Taught my eldest how to fold a Feileadh Mor the other day. This taxed the grey cells as I was shown as a youngster but hadnt attempted to do it for about 30 years. Did ok I think.
Regards
