Here's one for Chris and any others out there who may have an answer. I've read that following the first Jacobite Rising, in 1715, that the Commissioners for the Forfeited Estates generated a report entitled "Particulars of Claims on the Estate of Lochiel." At that time there were much confusion regarding the Lochiel Estate, since Sir Ewen Cameron was still alive, but quite old, his son John was in exile in Europe, and Donald "The Gentle Lochiel" Cameron was said to be owner of the estate. Even though history records the estate as never being forfeited at that time, it came dangerously close.
I don't seem to know of this report (though I may simply be forgetting about this one!) Has anyone ever consulted it, and is it available? Since it lists debts, bonds, and claims, this may be a great source of information.

Hi Tom, Documents relating to the Forfeited Estate of Lochiel are located in the National Archives of Scotland under the reference number of E682.There are five sections of documents contained within this:
1.An Account or Rental of the reall Estate which pertained to John Cameron, late of Lochzeill.Taken upon oaths of the respective Tenants and Possessors.1718.(Very detailed)
2.Particulars of Claims on the Estate of John Cameron, late of Lochzeill.1718.Detailed claims of personal debts etc.,and claims for damages and depredations sustained during the Rebellion (mostly emanating from the Gleneagles,Crieff, and Ruthven area of Perthshire).
3.Claims 1717 - 18.(I haven't seen this one).
4.Claims - exceptions 1719.(I haven't seen this one other).
5.Documents relating to Property in America 1713 - 1727.(Approx 25 letters attempting to establish whether the Lochiel family had sold off their holdings there).
I haven't checked, but there is likely to be other documents (under a different reference number) which summarise the findings.
If you are intewrested in the contents of items 1,2,or 3,I could post you across photocopies of my rough notes (they are readable!).
Regards,Chris.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the information. I had a feeling that you would know of these papers. I'd like to add your rough notes to entries regarding these papers that we could post in the Clan Cameron Archives. Thanks for the offer - I recall that your notes are VERY easy on the eyes, so to speak!
