This Should be childsplay for all the Cameronologists out there. According to an ancient Family Bible ,my 6th GGfather Captain Alexander Cameron was killed during the unsuccessful attack on Fort William april 1 (abt.) 1746. This is documented sufficiently but I know nothing 'bout 'is family. Can someone help?

Welcome to the family message board!
I will see if I can find anything about Captain Alexander Cameron for you. The fact that he was an officer certainly should help. From our own Clan Cameron website we have the information that Alexander Cameron of Drimnasall was killed. This could very well be your Alexander.

Drimnasall is better known as Drumasallie, "the Willow Ridge" - located at the head of Loch Eil - home to the Camerons of Drumsallie, and of the race of the Camerons of Kinlochiel (Sliochd Iain Dubh). These Camerons were descended from John Dubh M'Ewen, one of the younger sons of Ewen Allanson of Lochiel, XIII Chief. The Camerons of Kinlochiel lived at Drumasallie for centuries. (Information from the excellent book "The Lochaber Compendium" by Denis Muir and our very own Tom Cameron - I highly recommend it!)
Although there is lots written about the early days of this family, I haven't been able to find much about them around the time of the Rising. The Wadsetter of Drumasallie at the time of the '45 was Ewen Cameron and was succeeded by his eldest son, John by 1755. We know that he had a brother named Donald, as the two of them made a declaration at a land court in 1755, as to the exact rental of their land. It is entirely possible that Captain Alexander Cameron was their brother or their Uncle. Indeed, given his high rank, it is highly likely he was of the family of the Wadsetter of Drumasallie.
The family suffered huge losses after Culloden at the hands of Butcher Cumberlands men in June or July of 1746. Ewen's claim for losses includes 50 horses, 30 large cows, sheep and goats, the destruction of his home and his furniture.
This family is of particular interest to me (Camerons of Kinlochiel) because I have reason to believe that I am one of the 'Sliochd Iain Dubh', and this belief has been reinforced by the Clan Cameron DNA study. If your last name is Cameron, or you have a close relative who is, it would be fascinating to see if we are connected. You can find more information on the Clan DNA Study by going to our Clan webpage (www.clan-cameron.org) and following the links.
Is there information on Alexander Cameron's descendants in the family bible?
Slainte,
John

John, Not that I know of , but the funny thing is that on 2 separate occasions while wearing my kilt in downtown Columbus Nebraska one coupled thought I was their nephew who's a piper in a pipe band in Seattle Washington , while another couple thought I was their son - in - asking me where their daughter was . I guess it's true what they say everyone has a double somewhere . I seem to have 3 From family history it seems some of my Cameron ancestors after coming to the U. S. went to Canada for a Short time , and then came back to the U.S. I could be wrong , but I think some of them also spent sometime in Australia , but again I'm not sure If you're interested , and have a audio cassette tape I can mail you a copy of a Cameron family history tape by my Great Aunt Mabel Cameron Warner

Hi Jon, That is very interesting. I am always interested in Cameron family histories. This guy sure did look like you - he could be a distant relative.
We have a Warner family back in Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia where I come from. It is amazing when you start talking to people, you find out that the world really is a small place.
