Hi All,
Not looking to let moss grow on the proverbial rolling stone, I thought that we might join together to locate another one of Lochaber's elusive villages/crofts/farms.
Salichan: all I can find is that it was a part of the Lochiel Estate in 1788. Does anyone have a clue or idea?
Thanks!

...I'm somewhat red faced about this, but please disregard this query.
I did some digging and discovered that the place names "Salichan" is now known as "Salachan." It is located south of Ballachulish.
The reason I didn't simply delete this thread was to remind everyone that we need to try alternative spellings when searching for these locations. Just as the Soundex system does, we need to interchange vowels and use our imagination.
Perhaps I'll post another query soon (after swapping out the vowels!)

Hi Tom,
I think the Sallachan that you are looking for is the one that lay on the north side of Loch Arkaig,a few miles to the west of Achnasaul. The one which was south of Ballachulish was on the estate of Stewart of Appin. A lot of similiar names do crop up on various estates around the Highlands,so I am sure there are other Sallachans around, waiting to confuse us!
Regards,Chris.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the info! I have seen that situation, where the names come up in multiple locations (even within such a relatively small area as Lochaber) but wasn't aware of the two Sallachans.
Do you have a detailed location, so I might identify this on a modern Ordanance Map?
Thanks!
