...Do the poems posted on this board have to be about the Camerons, Scotland etc? I only ask because poetry writing is one of my favourite past times and I might be able to unearth some to share. None of my poems are about Camerons or Scotland though Just because I don't know a great deal about them and I've never been to Scotland! I just wanted to know if people wanted to read any that have absolutely nothing to do with the Camerons or if I should just keep them to myself P.s. I just saw I have been promoted to a Lochaber Ghillie! ;D Woop woop! What does Ghillie mean?!

Lauren, Ghillie means servant as in Ghill / Gillchrist Servant of Christ .Your poems could be about flowers , ( Heather ) as an example , anything Celtic , I think there are others that might enjoy your poems whatever the subject of the poem may be .

Hi Lauren, We would love it if you would be kind enough to share your poems with us. Always remember that by you just simply being who you are and doing what you do makes it related because you are a Cameron ;D! If we just talked about Cameron's and Scotland all the time then we wouldn't be taking advantage of this precious life we've been given now would we ! ;D Don't get me wrong I'm extremely PROUD of my roots and I'm very passionate about my Clan's history ,but like everyone I have many other wonderful things to share and also experience. I look forward to reading what you share. My pal Pops I see already informed you about the "Lochaber Ghillie" . When you get a chance (if you haven't already) definitely check out some of his offerings as well has other members writings. They are fantastic! Talk to you soon. Yours Aye, Sean

Hre's something funny My nephew - in - laws name is Lauren also . I guess here in the states it's a man's name . Like Marion can be both a male;s name , Marion Michael Morrison ( John Wayne's true name ) , and a girl's name . When you asked about what kind of poems you could post on the board , how about a poem about something you do know something about . I bet some here in the states would like to hear , or read about new Zealand written by a member of the Clan Cameron Message Board . I know I would be .

That's funny - I have heard of men called Lauren but they've always spelt it Loren - the italian way I think. I once had a male friend whose middle name was Meredith! And these days even names like Hayden and James can go both ways! Crazy!! Good idea about posting a poem about New Zealand. I never thought of that. I'll have a look at my book and if I haven't already written one about it I will put it on my to do list

Here's a poem about the Pohutukawa tree in New Zealand. They're native to NZ but they have been cultivated in some parts of Australia, South Africa and I believe even California too. So chances are you may have seen them before. It's not really one of my better poems but it's the closest to a poem about NZ I've ever written!
It's Christmas time and my Christmas tree has bloomed. I stand under the protective branches and lift my face to the sky. I close my eyes. The breeze cools my cheeks and sweeps my hair off my shoulders. I can hear it stirring the branches of my tree and the sing song instrumental of the Tui in response. It's as if they are singing to me the sounds of summer. I open my eyes and am confronted with the trunk of my tree. Thick and sturdy, strong enough to have held itself high through the centuries. This tree with it's bark dark brown as my own eyes, knows more than my eyes have seen. Sunlight is peeking through the canopy of my tree shimmering on the ground at my feet. A single flower falls from it's home breaking apart in it's descent. Fragile slivered petals dancing to the floor adding to the sweet smelling carpet on which I stand. My pohutukawa tree has bloomed and I know that Christmas is here.
By Lauren Becker.
Just in case there is any confusion the pohutukawa tree blooms in the summer so it's commonly known as NZ's Christmas tree.

Hello Lauren, What a great poem. I have never seen a Pohutukawa tree, but you have now painted a beautiful picture in my mind ! ;D Thank you for sharing that with us. If you don't think as you stated "not one of my better poems" than you are wrong and I can't wait to read other offerings. Again, wonderful poem. Keep writing ;D! Talk to you soon. Yours Aye, Sean

Thanks for the compliments I've been going through some of my other poems and think I'm going to have to write some more because a lot of the ones in my book are of a rather depressing nature. I seem to find it a lot easier to write sadder poems (not sure why) and I often write about things I've observed, things friends have gone through and some harder things I've been through...None of which seems terribly uplifting to post on the boards! My new mission is to write some better poems which are full of happiness and glory!! Watch this space
