Greetings Cameron Clansfolk,
Please note the following "House Rules" that are effective June 19, 2008. These were developed in response to feedback from our users and in accordance with standards "gleaned" from other message forums.
The Clan Cameron Association reserves the right to remove any post or user from our message boards — although we have no duty to do so. When posts are deleted, it is usually because they violate one or more of our house rules. Repeated violation of these rules may result in the suspension of your posting privileges.
Specific House Rules:
• We live by words online, and encourage civility. As such, we do not allow obscene, racist or sexually explicit language or images. Personal attacks are not permitted. We reserve the right to remove posts that “flame” individual(s), are abusive, hateful, or defame or insult anyone. We also reserve the right to remove posts that are off-topic or not in English (with the notable exception of Gaelic) and determine the appropriateness of posts.
• It is illegal to harass or threaten anyone. We take threats, harassment and stalking very seriously. Posts that might be construed as such may be deleted and made available to the proper officials.
• No solicitations or advertisements are allowed, unless in response to a Scots-related query. This includes advertisements for your business, your own online endeavors, “hot links” or the latest get-rich-quick scheme.
• You may not suggest or encourage illegal activity. We will assist officials in any investigation of such activities.
• Choose a username carefully. You may not use names that are offensive, that suggest illegal activities or that are meant to imitate other users. Any such names will be blocked from posting on our message boards.
• You must have copyright ownership of all material that you post on our message boards. No articles, recipes, song lyrics, art or graphics may be posted without the express written consent of the copyright holder (with the exception of those works out of copyright). If you’d like to refer to a news article from a site, please post no more than a few lines summarizing the article and include a link to it.
• You must respect the privacy of individuals. This means no posting of phone numbers, addresses, social security numbers or any other private information. We discourage users from posting such information even about themselves, as we cannot control how that information may be used beyond our message boards.
• Good manners online means that you don’t post the same note more than once. The online word for posting many times on one topic is “spamming.” We don’t allow it. Users are asked to finalize their thoughts into a concise posting and – if a post script comment is needed – edit the original posting as necessary, using the “edit” tool on the message board.
• Chat or “Chit Chat” is meant for a chat room, not the message boards. The experiment of “chatting” on our message board has been tested. Unfortunately, it clogs up the boards, is time-consuming to review and is often far off topic. From this time forward we don’t allow it. Users are encouraged to use our Private Message (PM) system for chat or utilize a third party chat board. Notice of a given chat schedule or an alternate board should be minimal and only included as a link in your “signature.” Directions to doing so may be found at proboards.com.
• You participate at your own risk on the bulletin boards, in chat rooms and in e-mail. You take responsibility for postings under your username and use the information provided here at your own risk. The Clan Cameron Association takes no responsibility for the content or opinions posted here.
• We want you to have fun and everyone else to be equally happy. Your cooperation is essential and greatly appreciated.
Please keep these rules in mind as you use our message boards. Thanks for participating.
