Greetings Camerons.
In late August of 2002 the Clan Cameron Message Center, consisting of some twenty or so intertwined message boards, covering a myriad of topics, went out of service. These boards were hosted free of charge by a third party, and Clan Cameron Online had no say so in their de-commission (the entire site, Beseen.com went off-line, apparently due to a corporate take-over.)
Unfortunately, the contents of the old message center have been lost (though we will continue to attempt to access them…somehow…anyhow, for archival purposes.) On the positive side, we have found a much better, lively home for the new Clan Cameron Message Center. The new boards, hosted free of charge by Proboards.com, are a state of the art message center with just about every feature available. The only “down side” is that since the message center is free, there are pop-up advertisements. While these ads are an inconvenience, they may be ignored by minimizing the first one received, instead of closing the pop-up window. If any clansfolk feel strongly enough to wish to subsidize these message boards for us, an annual $84 donation (or $6.99 monthly) to the Clan Cameron Online treasury (or via the Pay Pal “donate” link at the bottom of the message center pages) will enable us to completely eliminate the ads for one year.
All those wishing to post messages must register for a screen name. We would recommend registering your full name (first name, middle initial, last name,) since as we all know there must surely be thousands of John Camerons, just to cite one common name. Nicknames are also fine, but please remember that many won’t know who you are if the nickname is too obtuse. Each screen name may create a membership profile, and it can be quite extensive, including a photo/graphic, favorite quote, and other descriptive items – this profile may be updated as you wish in the future. There is also a system which assigns members a ranking based on how many messages they’ve posted. You’ll all become “new members” at first, working your way up to rankings such as “Lochaber Ghillie,” “Full-Fledged Cameron,” “Incredibly Dedicated Cameron” and the ultimate, “Eternal Cameron Hero.” This is just one of the fun and intriguing capabilities of this new message board! You can also create question “polls,” exploring any questions you might have.
General message board questions? Proboards has a wonderful support forum, which can answer many questions, located at:
proboards.proboards11.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1012806888
I will be able to answer some questions, but not all, especially since I am learning along with you – the Proboards FAQ link above should prove to be a wonderful place to find those answers.
That’s all for now. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience the loss of the old boards may have caused, but we do feel that this is a wonderful opportunity to take things to the next level. As a veteran of nearly 1000 posts on a similar non-Cameron related message board, I can personally recommend this new system. Have fun discovering all that this system can offer us.
