Thank you for the results of the Fassiefern research. Because of a tale in our family re rights to a loch given to the Lochiel Clan for a certain number of years for a good deed (for a change, grin). I note C1420.5 1745 "To John Cameron of Fassiefern at Inverscaddle from James Farquhar re locks." I am wondering if this could be a connection. Thank you Jean for any enlightenment. Dear Delphine,
Sadly the letter between these two gentleman relates to locks not Lochs, the correspondence relates to the repair of two locks and is dated Edinburgh May 20th 1745, the letter interested me as it appeared a rather mundane exercise in maintenance being attended to at a time in Highlands when,k unknow to either, Bonnie Prince Charlie was about to sail from France and bring into their lives the consequences of which we are all aware.
Whether these locks were Right hand or left hand opening, Brass or other, for rifle or door, all we know from this letter is that his brother Lochiel had forwarded them to Edinburgh for repair or replacement the total cost of which was to be two pound and nine pence.
