Who was this George Churchill? some more findings in dusty papers….
Edinburgh October 4th 1751….
For the Rt Hon The Lord Justice Clerk…
Whereas I have strong reason to suspect that an illicit correspondence, between some of the attainted rebels abroad and Alexander Cameron of Gleneves and Cameron of Fassifern, is now carrying on, by means of Mrs Cameron wife of Doctor Cameron who is lately arrived from France and by my intelligence I have reason to suspect she is intrusted with dispatches and commissions from the Pretenders agents in France to the above mentioned persons and others which tend to prejudice of His Majesty and his Government. His to be presumed that if the above mentioned persons and their papers were sized and examined a further light might be got into their illegal proceedings which may present any ill consequences arising there from
May it therefore please your Lordship to grant warrants to search or cause to being searched the persons of Alex Cameron of Gleneves and – Cameron of Fassifern and to search for and seize their papers in such places as they may suspect them to be concealed in and upon discovering any thing criminal to detain their persons till liberated by due course of Law - as likewise to grant warrant to seize the person and papers of the wife of Doctor Cameron and if anything criminal be found therein to detain her as above
(signed) Geo Churchill

I've seen this George Churchill mentioned before in relation to "Intelligence" from Lochaber.
I suspect he is the General Churchill, who was one of the Army Commanders-in-Chief for Scotland at the time.
