Does anyone know if any records survive for the Argyllshire Militia. Samuel Cameron married in 1793 in the Gaelic Church in Glasgow to Sarah McLean. The OPR record states that he was a soldier in the Argyllshire Militia. I would be grateful for any information.
Regards, Rob Cameron

Sorry, it was actually the Argyllshire Fencibles that Samuel was stated to be in at the time of his marriage. Can anyone help?
Thanks, Rob.

Hi Rob,
It sounds as if Samuel was serving with what was called" the 3rd Raising "of the Argyll Fencibles (1793-99).
To avoid confusion if you are looking for records, another two Regiments were raised at the same period: -Argyll Fencibles(4th Raising),1794-1802. -Argyll Fencibles(5th Raising),1796-1802.
The official military documents(Muster Lists, pay documents etc)are likely to be held at the Public Record Office,Kew,London,England. There is a good chance as well, that there will be some documents relevant to the Regiment, lodged with the National Archives of Scotland in Edinburgh.
Good luck,
Chris.
