My great great grandfather was Archibald McMillan Cameron. He was born in Scotland (I don't know where) in 1818. I don't know how old he was when he came to the U.S.A. His wife's name was Louisa Ann Flannigan Cameron, and their children were James Monroe, Sydney Ann, Alexander, John Tyler, Duncan Laughlin, Mattie L., and Henry. Archibald and his family lived in Barbour County, in south Alabama. He was killed in the American Civil War (1861-1865).
I would like to know what part of Scotland he came from, and who his parents were. I would like to trace my ancestry back as far as I can, to see where I fit in the Cameron Clan.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Nancy, can I ask how you come to know that Archibald McMillan Cameron was born in 1818, is it in a family bible?
The McMillan possibly indicates that his mother’s name was McMillan and his wife’s name I presume was Louisa Ann Flannigan (Mrs) Cameron.
It is also possible that he carried the Scottish naming practices through into his own family, first son named after the father’s father, first daughter named after Mother’s mother etc so you could be looking for:
Archibald McMillan Cameron born Scotland 1818 Son of James Cameron Mother: Mattie (Matilda) McMillan Married Louisa Ann Flannigan.
Or sadly, I could be completely wrong, and no help to you at all………Val.
