CLAN CAMERON NORTH AMERICA ANNOUNCES DNA STUDY
from the November/December 2004 Clan Cameron Online Newsletter
The Clan Cameron Association - North America is coordinating the first wide-spread study of Cameron DNA, as it relates to family genealogies. Convened on December 1, 2004, the project is intended to benefit those with the Cameron surname in their genealogical endeavors. Family Tree DNA, the group that pioneered the use of DNA testing in the field of genealogy, is the entity actually performing the testing.
Please continue reading below, for the official announcement from the Project Administrator, Cerise Cameron Blair:
It is my sincere pleasure to announce to those who bear the surname Cameron worldwide the ultimate tool in researching our ancestors – the CAMERON DNA PROJECT!
When the five Regional Presidents and Commissioner of North America met in May, 2004 in St. Louis, Missouri, our primary goal was to explore ways we could add membership benefits and things of genuine interest for us all. One of our most important decisions was for the Clan Cameron Association of North America to coordinate a DNA Study. We have engaged the Family Tree DNA group of Houston, Texas to manage the Project, as they are considered the ‘gold standard’ and most reliable company with more than 1300 surname projects now underway and have more being added every day. One of our prime concerns was to insure that every aspects of such a project be handled in an absolutely secure and private manner, so that any and all results are revealed only to those persons who are pre-approved by the participants.
We urge you to visit the new, robust section of the Cameron website – www.clan-cameron.org/dnawhere you should be able to find every bit of information you need to learn how to participate and what to expect from the study.
As explained fully on the site, no DNA test is guaranteed to prove your ancestry, but should be viewed as the most reliable means known to help you establish with others your earliest known common ancestor by comparing your DNA to another’s. To that end, anyone who participates is encouraged to expect that results are not necessarily immediate but are most quickly obtained when another participant of your direct line is also involved. This is most definitely a “more-the-merrier” endeavor!
By participating, Camerons worldwide have a much better hope of tracing their own personal line. The Family Tree DNA Company makes it simple for participants from any place in the world to become involved via a secure on-line payment system that accepts all currencies. It is our hope that those New Zealand, Australia and Scottish Camerons – plus all others around the world – will now take advantage of this valuable genealogy aid. We feel it takes us all an important and valuable step closer to one another, no matter where we live, to strengthen the bonds of kinship.
In the spirit of the season, why not consider sponsoring a male Cameron on your Christmas list? It’s truly a gift that will keep on giving long past our lifetimes and into the future!
