Most sources of information about surnames say that Cameron is derived from Camshron (crooked nose) but I have also seen Cameron shown as Cambrun (crooked hill). Seeing as how Cambrun disappeared from wide usage when the name Camshron appeared, does this mean that the true form of the name is actually Cambrun? (or Cambroun) That would mean that the names signed on the Ragman Rolls / Arbroath would be some of the early Camerons.

I am almost certain that our Clan name is a purely Gaelic one. There are definitely some Clan names of Norman or Viking heritage but often wishful thinking has distorted History in my opinion.
