A place for Cameron's who served in any of the armed services , in the past , and Cameron's who are serving in either of the armed services today . An example would be a Cameron who was among the many soldiers who was at Normandy during the invasion . For Cameron's who are serving in the armed service today a way to keep in touch with Cameron's back home . Even talk what it was like when they entered boot camp . Just to make it clear this forum is for all Camerons who had served in the military in the past , or is in the military today whether they are American , Canadian , Australian , New Zealander , or serving in a British / Scottish regiment This also includes Cameron Septs

My father is a Cameron by marriage since my mothers maiden Name was Thelma Lucile Cameron . Here;s a couple of stories he told from when he was in the service . When he was doing through boot camp there was a trumpet player who played trumpet for Harry James . So he was chosen to plat reveille . Once the player was out on a pass , and didn't get back until just before he had to play reveille. Since he was a wee bit shall we say a wee bit soused he woke the camp up playing Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy . The second second involves him & my uncle Durwood Cameron . My father's job in the Army was Artillery Spotter , and radioman . He was in charge of directing artillery fire to different locations . During the time while this was happening my mother had sent a letter to my father telling him that my uncle was in the area where he was . My father using the radio was able to track him down , and made plans to meet , but that didn't happen . On the day that they were to meet my uncle was ordered to board a ship for Hawaii to prepare for the invasion of Japan . . While heading for Hawaii the Atomic Bomb fell on Hiroshima , but since the ship He was on was under radio silence , and didn't find out until the ship docked in Hawaii .Once they found out the ship was ordered back to the U.S.Now forward to 1976 . My younger brother was in the Army stationed in Germany . My father , and mother went over there to visit him . As it turned out my brother happed to be stationed in the area where my father was acting as a artillery spotter . You could still see the indentions in the ground from where the shells landed after all those years .
