Greetings
A quick update on some new analyses we've done with the Cameron DNA Project. One was to compare the Cameron DNA to data submitted by Ulster Scots. The other was to compare Cameron DNA to the Dalriadic pattern (Colla Uais), Somerled, and McDonald of Glengarry.
Interestingly, the Cameron participants in the "Ardachy" group (kits 4114, 73806, 115606, 147828--but not N57898) show a strong relationship to several Ulster families. This could hint at residence in Argyll with some family members migrating to lands owned by a landlord with holdings in both Scotland and Ulster.
Three of the same people, kits 4114, 73806, and 161945 ALSO showed probable descendancy from Colla Uais.
Other kits showing possible descendancy from Colla Uais were 32223, 33269, 33684, 34558, 42149, 59512, 61542, 72156, 74479, 79435, 113494, 125142, 148113, 151689, and N8948.
No Cameron in the project has a relationship to Somerled or McDonald of Glengarry...which I think confirms the history, does it not?
Best Kim

Hi Kim, Thanks for the update. This is fascinating stuff. For those who don't know, who was Colla Uais?
Actually, the history of our Clan does include descendancy from Somerled, through the Cameron's of Glen Nevis, originally MacSorlies. It is possible that no-one in the project is descended from Glen Nevis Camerons, or that the theory of their ancestry is incorrect.
Slainte,
John

Hi John thanks for setting me straight on the Somerled/ McSorlie connection.. Colla Uais was said to be the founder of the Dalraida community in western Scotland, having been chased out of northern Ireland by, I think, his brother back in the mid 300s. He, like Niall of the nine hostages, is one of the few ancient Scots we have DNA signatures for. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niall_of_the_Nine_HostagesThe clans said to have descended from Colla Uais include the McDonnells/ McDonalds, McGregors (who we know were forced to hide their last names for some time), McMillans, and Campbells. A decent introduction to Colla Uais is at www.electricscotland.com/webclans/m/macdonald_genetic.htmCheers Kim

Posted on behalf of Cerise Cameron Blair, Project Administrator, Cameron DNA Study: Dear Cameron Project Members, Within the next 48 hours you will find the results of hundreds of hours of volunteer work Kim Taylor has put into our Project. When the "still-in-progress" data is loaded, you will find the latest on your lineage at the Clan Cameron main website: www.clan-cameron.org under the DNA Section. Using your kit number, you will likely find that your DNA results have placed you in one of several groups of other participants in a way that is far beyond what your own kit matches have been able to tell you up to now. Most of you will be able to see which group, and therefore what area, your DNA sample indicates your Camerons lived. For those who have posted GEDCOMs and entered YSearch, you have already discovered the advantages of the power of sharing your research beyond close matches. Now you will discover your lineage in more detail than we ever dreamed when we began the project some 5 years ago, thanks to Kim. However, we aren't done yet! There is lots more work to do, so we urge you to check the results often by going to www.clan-cameron.org. As always, let us know how we can better serve you.

KUDOS to KIM and CERISE for the hours of work on the Cameron Group Project. I looked yesterday at the message centre area for a place to post a message. Could not find one. I just noted Tom's message now. So here am I saying" thank you, thank you". On an earlier message I said I would like to see it happen before my 87th BD. Well it is too late for that but too early for my 89th. It is a job well done with heart and mind. We owe Kim a BIG round of Applause!!! Delphine Cameron Large

Hi Delphine,
I agree with you 100% - these wonderful ladies have been working on this project for quite some time. As you mentioned, heart and mind, working with excellent purpose.
Too often a good job goes unnoticed, or at least doesn't get commented on. At times, the vocal minority likes to cast "stones" at those who put themselves out there to actually do the work, and the silent majority simply remains quite and content. This project is being done for the collective benefit of anyone bearing our surname, and has already uncovered some amazing results, thanks to you both.

This is fascinating information. Thanks very much! My dad is kit 161945, and we've been interested to learn about Colla Uais. It's amazing how far back this DNA can take us. I was wondering how we know about the DNA for Colla Uais? They were a pretty ferocious group of brothers, from the sound of them. Am I right in thinking that this family further back came from Spain? Thanks again. Fiona

Hi Kim and Cerise I am wondering if FTDNA is to send you my 37 marker information to you to update my Clan Cameorn results? I have not seen any evidence of this information on the Cameron DNA project and the tests were done over two years ago. The FTDNA site does show evidence of their work being completed. Please help me clear up the process to facilitate the upgrade.
I do wish we had more participants from our active Clan Cameron members.
How was the DNA sample of Colla Uais obtained?
Again, yours' and Cerises' efforts to keep us current in this project are greatly appreciated.
Slainte, Robert Cameron, Rocky Mtn. Branch

I was happy to see my number listed, at least it points out where my ancestors "didn't come from." Any idea yet where N57898 does fit in?
