While browsing my Stewart ancestry in Renfrewshire and thereabouts I find I am said to be descended from one Janet Cameron who married in the mid 1400s Walter Stewart of Arthurlie. She is surely my earliest known Cameron ancestor, but who was she? I can find no other clues in the Stewart genealogies.
Janet Cameron is presumably a woman of some status, perhaps from the Camerons of Ballegarno. Is there any authoritative record of these early Camerons? I can find only a few snatches about them with the help of Google.
