Hi All,
I have a geography question, that someone from Lochaber or perhaps Chris might have an answer for. Where might Strone Nevis be located? I have read that it is east of Inverlochy and by its name one might quess that it is a promontory of Ben Nevis (some reports also locate it on the "shoulder" of The Ben). I haven't pulled out all the books and maps yet, but am coming up empty with the usual sources...

Hi Tom, I found it at: www.old-maps.co.uk/Grid Ref: 211874, 773911 It is NE of Cow Hill, near a place marked as "Wiers" on a modern map. It is across the Glen from Claggan. Hope this helps! Slainte, John

Hi John,
Thanks!! I should have remembered that wonderful website, which I used to locate some maps of my ancestor's birthplaces a year or two ago... What really bothers me is that I know that one of the maps I have (somewhere) showed Strone Nevis. Anyhow, now there's another location that will be marked on the Virtual Lochaber project as a battlefield.
John - speaking of battlefields, please check out the first addition to the "Battles of Clan Cameron" that we've made in several years. It's for the Battle of Bun Gharbhain, circa 1570.

Hi Tom,
John beat me to it - and is spot on! On some modern maps you will also find it marked as "Sron Nibheis".
Cheers,Chris.
