This may seem a bit strange, but I'm trying to work out my heritage, but since I can't afford genealogy websites, DNA tests or to consult individual genealogists, I'm trying to do it another way. Basically, I'm looking for information on my grandfather. I know his name, what he looked like, where he's from and when he died, but unfortunately that's all. My family don't talk much about these kinds of things. His name was Murdoch Cameron, he was quite short with red hair (I think he may have had ever so slight buck teeth, but I can't be sure). He was from Ullapool originally but he moved to Glasgow. I have no idea about any previous marriages to my grandmother, Annie (usually known as Ann) Cameron. From what little I've been told, he died in 1960, with 2 children. One, named Anne Cameron and another, my father, James/Jim Cameron. They were respectively 3/4 years and 3 months old when he died. I know this is an incredibly long shot, but I will appreciate any information I can get

Hi My branch of the Camerons comes from Achlunachan, Lochbroom. This is a very small village at the head of the loch. Ullapool where your grandfather came from is half way down the loch on the northern shore. My particular branch left the area in the mid 1800's, however we do have Murdoch's, Donalds and Alexanders in our line. If I were you I would obtain a copy of your grandfathers death certificate. This should give you some good information on where he was born and possibly his parents names. Next target will be his birth register followed by his parenrts death certificates and so on. It is a matter of persistance and perseverance - can also be very frustrating, but you will get there in the end. You never know you may find that we have an ancestor in common. Regards Stuart Cameron New Zealand
