John Cameron I believe was born 14/7/1760 in Kilmonivaig, was married to Catherine Sinclair, and was an Inn-Keeper in Fort William. Their daughter Jessie was born 1/11/1809 in Urquhart and married Thomas Clark 12/7/1839. Jessie's brother John was born C. 1811. Does anyone have any details on this family of Camerons?

Hi Duncan,
Just this afternoon I was talking to Margaret Cameron, <margaret077@sympatico.ca> about Camerons from that area. She can give you some help I am sure, or suggestions.
You might email her with your query, she is in Ontario Canada.
Happy New Year, Peg Cameron Green Bay, Wi

Hi Duncan and John,
I had a look at the entry in the Old Parish Records for Kilmonivaig, and it reads that John was born on the 14 July 1760 to Ewan Cameron in Stronegloy, but baptised in Ratullichmore.
Stronegloy was a small collection of houses located in the Dochanassie part of Lochaber, just at the mouth of Glen Gloy.It was roughly where you will find Glenfintaig Lodge marked on modern maps.Ratullichmore would have lain approx.1 mile to the south-west.

Thank you Chris - I really appreciate all your efforts on behalf of those of us who are far away from our native roots.
Duncan - there is a very strong likelihood that you and I are related. My family (as you may notice from my signature) came from Ratlichmore/Ratullochmore/Rathliesmore (different spellings, same place) in Kilmonivaig Parish. We descend from the MacMartin branch of the Clan.
My gggrandfather was Angus Cameron, who was born in 1830 at Ratullochmore, and who emigrated to Nova Scotia about 1851. His parents were Angus Mor Cameron and Katherine (Kett) MacDiarmid. I believe that Angus' parents were John Cameron (b. @1746) and Mary Stewart (b. @1746) , but I haven't been able to prove that. I also believe that John's father was named John (this is from memory, as I don't have any of my papers in front of me - so I could be off).
I would strongly encourage you to have a look at the Cameron DNA testing that we are doing just now. I am currently waiting for the results. If your last name is Cameron, they could establish if we do indeed share a common male ancestor.
Good luck with your search, and please keep me informed of your progress.
Slainte,
John

Duncan - I see by your e-mail address that you are a McMillan - but if you know of a Cameron descendant of your John Cameron, we'd love to have him participate.
If you look at these threads you will find lots of info about the Letterfinlay/Dochanassie and Ratullochmore Camerons.
