Hello everyone. I am looking for a spark of inspiration from anyone out there!! My family lore has always said we are of the Locheil clan and I am trying to prove this to be the case. However so far I have found a forebear born 1795 and all have been from the Moray/Banffshire area (mostly Grantown on Spey). I wondered if anyone happened to know of the movement of the clan from West to North East. I'm kinda stuck!! Best Regards fi bonnie Scotland Mark Cameron

Hi Mark, Welcome to the family message board! If you have a look at : www.lochiel.net/archives/arch177.htmlyou will see a version of how the Camerons came to the Black Isle - I realize that the Black Isla is north of the area you are looking for - but they may have branched out. Somerled MacMillan, in his book "Bygone Lochaber" tells a tale of one of my ancestors, who with his cousin was caught "lifting" cattle in Strathspey. Lochiel had to intervene on the young men's behalf in order to get them back home. I also recall hearing a story very similar to the Black Isle story about a group of Camerons who were sent to accompany a young bride to her bethrothed in the east. They were rewarded for their service with land and remained in the area. Maybe someone else can refresh my memory - I will try to think of the specific details! Slainte, John
