I have managed to expand the list of known descendants of this John Cameron (see Stewart's The Camerons p. 216a) through Charles, said to have died unmarried. They were centred at Shelfield, parish Kilmodan until at least 1851. At least one then came to Australia. Does anyone have any other information on this family? And does anyone know who John's mother was - I think he would have been born about 1760.

Dr. Robert: We have had a previous correspondence re John of Kilmodan , b 1760 to Donald Cameron b 1741. Donald had been at Louisbourg and on the Plains of Abraham , having left Scotland in 1757 He was with the 78th Fraser Highlanders until discaharge in 1763 and did not return to Scotland until later. This 1760 birth seems out of context. I have info from Pictou County, Nova Scotia showing a John listed as being a surviving son of Donald when he was drowned. NS says 1796. Stewart says 1817. This is listed in records in Nova Scotia . Delphine Large (Cameron), Victoria, B.C. Canada
