"Many families have claimed descent from one or other of Doctor Archie's sons". Does anyone know of any of these claims, apart from those already listed in Stewart's The Camerons? I have found that some apparently outlandish claims to several other Cameron families have in fact turned out to be almost certainly true.

I don't know who my mother's family refered to, but they used to talk with some pride of being related to "Doc Cameron". Unfortunately I never found out whom they meant by this since I was a late in life baby so most of my mothers family passed on before I came of age to really get to know any of them. After my mother died my father never let me be in contact with the few relatives she had.

The famous Canadian poet, George Frederick Cameron, is descended from a Dr. Archibald Cameron, but apparently the family is not positive if it was "the" Dr. Archibald Cameron.

Well Bob, we have Peg, passing on this piece of interesting Genealogy, perhaps she would like to fill out her comments a little and in doing so give us an opportunity of connecting some of the descendants back into Dr Archibald Cameron of Lochiel
Peg said…..
“Archibald, a physician, who engaged in the rebellion of 1745, and was executed. By Jean, his wife, daughter of Archibald Cameron, of Dungellon, Dr. Cameron left four sons & one daughter. One of his sons, Donald Cameron of Edinboro', after graduating from University went to Canada, and opened the first higher school in Hopewell, Nova Scotia. While there he married Mary MacKenzie (Anne is crossed out), daughter of Thomas MacKenzie, of Applecross, and granddaugher of Colin MacKenzie of Kilcoy, who had come to this country with her brothers...By this marriage he had issue...William, Duncan, JAMES GRANT (my, Peg's...ggGrandfather), Donald, William (the 2nd), John and Hugh, (twins), Margaret..."

Yes, I've got this listed in my records. Times seem to be a bit out, but I suggest that Donald could be a grandson of Dr Archie. But then we don't know his father. Bob C.

Hi Bob and Alan, (concerning Dr. Archie)
I was told by John Steinbacher (Ann Cameron) in North Gower Ontario (he kindly did a lot of research for me) that I was missing a generation. After great searching, I found just too many Donalds and am at a standstill.
I did welcome two visits from Bob Cameron and Shirley of Cold Lake ,Alb. They were just as wonderful as his emails suggested. If you would like a photo of he and me with the Cameron car, write me at mjcp@new.rr.com I truly hope to see him in the Great Reunion! Aonaibh re cheile...Peg
