There has been quite a history of participation by members of Clan Cameron in NSW in various Clan Cameron websites on the Internet, I have in the past stood back and read with pleasure some of their posting.
This is a new format, and new Message Board and it seems like the time for me to ask whether I may join in and share some of the unity that our very Clan Cry suggests.
I am at the moment the President of Clan Cameron Association in NSW two or possibly three of our past Presidents Dr Robert Cameron and Alistair M Cameron Alistair Cameron have preceded me as contributors.
We as a group endeavour to attend as many of the Highland Gatherings and Games throughout the State, where we provide an information Marquee to assist with as many enquiries re Cameron history, genealogy and de tha dol that we can be pass on to those who call in and make contact.
The genealogical research that was undertaken by Dr Robert Cameron from members personal family history files grew so quickly from the original one volume into a three volume set, that it became a far better proposal to convert it. It now takes the form of a very transportable CD onto which over 50,000 names of descendants from original Cameron migrants have been place, I can proudly say that no other Clan Association in Australia has come near to such an achievement.
My thanks to Tom Cameron for initiating this Message Board, there are many worthwhile things to be said about our Cameron ancestors, our Cameron history and our Cameron Unity…..
What a great place to say it all……..Valerie Smith.

Many thanks for the kind words Valerie, and welcome to the new Message Center! What a wonderful accomplishment, with 50,000 Camerons of Australia on the CD project. I am sure that future generations of Camerons in Australia will be quite appreciative, as well as those looking into their genealogies!!

Alan, is that you?? I have a feeling that it is! Thanks for coming over to post on the new Message Center, which I hope will be a "second home" to some of the GOTC Camerons, or as you call them "The Shy Camerons!" Anyhow, it's great to have you here, and I'm sure things will be lively with your participation (how could they be otherwise??)

Greetings again to our fellow Australian Camerons….. we have the Invercargill Pipe Band from New Zealand touring Australia at the moment, proving just how good these NZ Pipe Bands are and just how necessary it is to support the survival of these Pipe Bands which have become the Icons of Scottish Culture worldwide.
NSW now heads into a Hot Dry Summer during which at the end of November we hold Scottish Heritage Week in Sydney, wherein a whole week of Scottish Australians remember where to place the blame for we/us decking ourselves out in woollen kilt, plaid and other cold weather attire…<g>
There is a diminishing role being played by the descendants of our original Cameron ancestors or perhaps it is just that we are not so easily recognised among the many Multi-cultural events that are now part of the daily scene. If this is the case then it is more necessary now than ever before to participate and become visible within our population as a reminder of the part our ancestors played in the pioneering of Australia…..Scottish Heritage Week is a good opportunity to express this support any information required about this event can be obtained from myself or our Newsletter Editor Alistair M Cameron on acameron@hinet.net.au
Perhaps as item of interest Tom would allow us to publish our NSW Cameron Newsletter on line…..or perhaps we could have a separate section where all Newsletters could be place on line….the more information that we can glean, the more support we should be able to obtain…..Val

For those that might be interested the SCOTTISH BANNER has an AUSTRALIAN version of their newspaper along with a U.S. & SCOTTISH version . Every once in awhile the American version will have stories , and articles of intrest about Cameron in both Australia/ New Zealand , & Scotland . I think it would be worth a look . They do have a genealogical section in the paper for those who are searching for their ancestors . I'M NOT TRYING TO PROMOTE THE BANNER , I'm just listing it as another source of information for those who might be interested in checking it out .

Additional to previous message . Are there any Australian/ New Zealand Camerons that do get the Australian version of the SCOTTISH BANNER ? I would be interested in knowing . To me for stories , and articles from Scotland it can't be beat . The main reason that I like it , it's a great way on keeping up with what's going on in Scotland .

In answer to your question re the Australasian Edition of the Scottish Banner, we certainly do have it circulated here and other than local issues both the North American and the Australasian edition are similar.
It is by far the most popular and effective way of getting the local events publicised and has wide circulation here in Australia, you have rather less in the US because other publications eg The Highlander also cover events.
However I would suggest that a better way to keep in touch with events happening in Scotland is to take "The Scotsman" and/or "The Herald" newspapers online, that way you will cover the issues, weather and various local happenings that are impacting upon the present Scot.
