Hi there,
how many musicians do we have in the clan these days? Say hi and let us know what you play. I play the pipes, guitar, whistles, Bodhran, try very badly at playing the fiddle, and have been known to turn my hand to the mandolin and the banjo...... and yes i can play the theme from Deliverance before you ask.....

Myself, I play the radio. But my son is a medal-winning piper, now living in San Juan, PR. Not handy for most folks, I guess. Daughter has a Celtic music group in the Joplin area, Missouri. She plays hammered dulcimer, accordion, pennywhistles, and almost anything else that's handy. Marslaidh

The beautiful and very talented Josephine is the daughter of our very own Peg - we should all be very proud. The young lady has a very distinguished lineage of poets, and is directly descended from one of Canada's most famous poets, George Frederick Cameron. She is carrying on her family's tradition. I would encourage everyone to support her by purchasing her CD's - you will not be disappointed!
John Allan Cameron is also well worth a listen. He is a legend. Also the first person to wear a Kilt at the Grand Ole Opry. He is a wonderful guitar player (12 string) - and a terrific entertainer.
The Rankin Family, and Natalie MacMaster of Cape Breton have Cameron roots as well. Natalie's "My Roots Are Showing" CD has a picture of her gggrandfather Donald Mor (Big Dan) Cameron of Mabou on the cover.

Hello Yves,
Thank you for your post, and many thanks for honouring the memory of those who died in defence of our freedom.
My grandfather, Russell Cameron, was a member of the 85th Battalion, Nova Scotia Highlanders, and fought in WW1. He was wounded in October, 1918 at Valenciennes.
It is a fitting tribute that the Pipes, which led so many into battle, are now used to honour them.
Lest we forget.
Moran taing,
John

Hey out there, you got your ears on John Cameron? I've downloaded some of Josephine Camerons sample music at her website. She has a very beautiful voice. So interesting that her mother is a member here if I read that right what you wrote. And as a side note to all of this, the company where Josephine sells her cd's (not Amazon.com) the other one, CD Baby, well it is indeed a small world. I work two blocks down the street from that company. Right here in Portland Oregon. Man what a small world.
I even ran into a guy who works there the other day. I was on my way to work, taking public transportation and met him on the bus. CD Baby seems to be a bit more than a baby. I think I will buy a cd of Josephines. She has a very soothing voice. To think, when we become a member online with a community, a clan, an extended family, one never knows what they will find. Who would have thought this would be so close to home. Incredible! ;D

Thank you Randy for those posts. I have no doubt that Josephine would probably autograph a CD for you, especially if you told her you were a Cameron! She is indeed the daughter of my very dear friend, Peg.
It is a very small world indeed.
Slainte,
John

Hi Scott, John, and RH,
It was very nice of you Scott , to introduce RH and others to Josie and her CD's. I have not been on CCOL since I canceled my last email address, just in case an email to me bounced back. I am on my daughter's computer at the moment, and want to say thanks for the compliments, and memories...I hope all is going well with you all...
I am sure Josie would be happy to sign a CD, RH, by now I would suppose you have gotten ahold of Josie on her website.
I send my good wishes your way to you and your families, and John, tell Kim I am remembering her kindness and love from a Mcd! *S*

Hi Peg, next week I'll personally be stopping by CD Baby, I'll tell them how I found out about Josephines cd. Small world, so very small. Not sure which cd I will buy, she has such a pleasant voice, I kept listening over and over to her sample mpegs she had on her website that could be downloaded. I'll have to cruise on over to her site again and see which cd I want to buy. Then, how do I go about getting the cd to her to have it signed? I believe you live in Wisconsin or Michigan if I recall correctly. I had a friend who lived in Genoa Wisconsin not too long ago, she moved to France a couple of years ago. Not sure how close you are to Genoa. Ok, I'll be in touch, talk to you later.

Darn, when are they ever going to invent the 'replicator'? I could beam the cd on over to Josie and then have her sign it, then she could beam it on over back to me..... and save the postage...

Even though I don,t play any instrument at all , I do have a collection of recordings of Scottish Wedding Music. In my research on Scottish Wedding Music the Bride & Groom have thier own wedding marches. The traditional wedding march for the Groom can be either thier Clan march , or if they're not part of a Clan they can use (are you ready for this ) is :HAIL TO THE CHIEF: Wich was a musical score that Sir Walter Scott useed for a play he wrote titled :LADY OF THE LAKE:Besides the traditional wedding marches I also have a collection of Scottih Wedding Music in Gaelic, Comtemporary, Religious, Secular , & Traditiona Non-Scottish Wedding Music and also Classical. I lso have recordings of wedding marches for the Bride. So if anyone that's planning a wedding and wants some ideas for wedding music I'll be glad to help in any way I can . In closing If the bride wants a truely traditional Scottish Wedding , the Bridel Dress is Blue not White. Because Blue ment good luck. ianjonefan@yahoo.com

I play the drums and guitar. My boys and I would like to learn how to play the pipes. I'm currently researching the best chanters for us to learn on. Any input would be appreciated. My children are funny, every day we have music time and it always includes something with pipes. Once they hear the pipes a playin they well up with pride. In fact this past Easter my oldest son Cameron told his grandfather "I'm Clan Cameron and I'm going to play the bagpipes". He's only 5 years old. Aonaibh Ri Cheile Sean H. Chambers

:MEMORIAL DEDICATION TO A PIPER & A FRIEND: Bruce McMorris member of the :OMAHA PIPES & DRUMS: (CAMERONS OF ERRACHT TARTAN) Febuary 8 , 1954 - April 25th , 2005 . I remember the good times Bruce & I had. Coming to Columbus for our Columbus Days Parade , the good times the had , and when I flew to Albuerque New Mexico to attend the Highland Gamame there we would have lunh together at the airport prior to my flight. if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have made it through 2 very hard times. The first one was when i was mugged. I can still remember the date . December 27, 1993. I had just goten off work , it was 1:30 A. M. , wind chill -50 degrees. After walking 4 miles I was mugged within 2 blocks from home . After a few days I called bruce to tell him that I would not be able to attend the St. Andrew's Day Ball . He asked me what happened , so I told him. A few days later I received a $300.00 check from the Omaha Pipes & Drums. I called Bruce as soon as I could to thank him for the check and that the band didn't have to send me such a large one . he replied that I was a frienf , and the band always help their friends. The 2nd time that he helped me was when my father died. It was exactly 1 month and 1 day after I was mugged. I just needed to talk to someone so I called Bruce and after I had told him my father died he asked me to let him know when his funeral was and he'll come to Columbus to play the pipes for his funeral. As the day of the funeral got closer ther were blizzard warnings out . So I called bruce to tell him not to come because of the weather. The day of the funeral turned clear & cold and he was there to play his bagpipe. I miss him my :BROTHER: not by blood , but in spirit. He was one of those rare and special people you could count on anytime night , or day no matter what the situation. Most people are lucky knowing one person they could realy count on . I thought I would never meet another one like him , but tomy surprise I met another piper by the name of Kevin Arnold who very much reminds me of Bruce. After our first meeting it was as if we've been friends for years. I've been very lucky in having the friends I have.

Jon, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of such a wonderful friend. You are absolutely right. That is such a rarity in people especially these days. From what you have shared he truly was a great man. Let it be a lesson to us all. I'm sure he is watching over you and he has sent you another great friend in Kevin Arnold. Most people if they are lucky have one friend like that and by the sounds of it you have even better than that. That should tell you something about yourself. I haven't known you a long time but in that short time I can tell you that I'm honored to count you among my friends. Thank you Jon ! Even though it's been a few years, when you lose someone like that there is no amount of time that can heal such a loss. My thoughts are with you and I'm here if you need me. Yours Aye, Sean

A note, I was readingan article about Elvis presley , it was reported that he has Scottish ancestry . How many of you have noticed that some of his songs has a Scottish connection? As an example Love Me Tender has the same tune as Aura Lee. There's probly others , but this is one I remember the most.

I would like to share a story about Bruce McMorris a very dear friend of mine up until the day he died. He and Carol Keller were students at the University of Nebraska -Lincoln some years ago . At the time they were students , they worked for the university's newspaper . Carol , & Bruce were invited to a wedding , and the bride & groom wanted Bruce to play the bagpipes for the wedding . After the wedding , Bruce invited Carol , & some friends to his house to have a little party bagpipe music was being played , & everyone was having a good time . The party had just ended , and the bagpipers had just put their bagpipes away when a cop came up to them and asked them if they knew who wasplaying bagpipes a 1:00 A. M. in the morning They answered noooo .
