The obituaries of two sons and one grandson of Alexander Cameron (c1787-1859) claim that this man fought at Waterloo. This is clearly untrue as he was serving as Clr Sgt with the 103rd Foot in Upper Canada at the time of Waterloo. Those obituaries also report that he was related to Sir Alan Cameron of Erracht (1753-1828); two of the obits says he was a grandson of Sir Alan and the other says he was grand-nephew. I'm wondering if there could be any truth in these claims ... i.e. that he was related to Sir Alan in some way. Alexander Cameron was born in Abernethy Parish, Inverness-shire, possibly the son of Angus Cameron and Janet Ross. In died in the insane asylum at Toronto, Ontario, Canada his condition related to extensive wounds (including head wounds) sustain at either the Battle of Lundy's lane (when the 103rd stumbled into the melee around the guns) or at the assault of Fort Erie (when the 103rd was mowed down in the ditch) ... probably the latter.
