Greetings from Nova Scotia: I've just begun working via online genealogy sites to find a MacIntaylor/ Taylor accounting of the descendants of Donald ' Taillear Dubh na Tuaighe' Cameron. The family tradition is that we're Taylors, but of the Camerons of Lochiel.. and then it gets as foggy as a dose of Scottish (or Nova Scotian) sunshine. This website worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=mulcaster&id=I156seems to indicate his family moved to Canada (before my family line)-- and yet I understand there are Taylors in the Bute & Ayrshire areas who consider themselves connected. Were there other Taylor septs under the Lochiel wing, or are they all directly from Taillear Dubh? In any case, it's good to connect with you all via this Clan Cameron chat thing. Cheers, Sean Taylor New Minas, Nova Scotia

I've had an idea . For those who have just joined , why don't you put which Clan Cameron branch you joined ? As for me I'm a member of the Rocky Mountain Branch of Clan Cameron . Even though I live in Nebraska which is a little out of its region . The only other 2 is MO-KAN , & the one that includes Iowa that's close to me

I came across a site LADIES FROM HELL which was about W.W.1 Scottish Soldiers in their kilts going into battle against the Germans . I was wondering if any Cameron Message Board Member had any ancestors in any of these Scottish Battalions ?

While trying to find out about the QUEEN'S OWN CAMERON HIGHLANDERS and the battles that they fought in W.W.1 & 2 The only link that I could find on any Cameeon regiment was the CAMERON HIGHLANDERS of Canada . I wonder if some of the Canadian Camerons can shed more light on this regiment ?

Hi Jon, My grandfather, Russell Cameron, fought in WWI - he belonged to the 85th Overseas Battalion, Nova Scotia Highlanders. They were a kilted regiment, and wore the Black Watch tartan. Their motto was "Siol na Fear Fearail" or "The Breed of Many Men". He was wounded at Valenciennes, France and spent a long time convalescing in England before being brought home.
Slainte,
John

I wish to inform you of a death in the family . When I got home from doing some volunteer worh , my mother informed me that my aunt Wilma " Cameron " Copple had died , and she was a CAMERON !!! to the end . She made it very clear to the family that the only way she would leave her house is by dying at home . I guess others had faced her " CAMERON " TEMPER , but as far as I can remember she never got angry enough at me for her to bring it out . She would have been 98 this year . My mother , and a cousin are the only " CAMERONS " left of her generation

My condolences Jon on the passing of your Aunt.
Revelation 14:13 "And a voice from heaven came to my ears, saying, Put in writing, There is a blessing on the dead who from now on come to their end in the Lord: yes, says the Spirit, that they may have rest from their troubles; for their works go with them."
From Carolina Oliphant, (Lady Nairne), 1766-1845 - a poem that I have always found sad but comforting:
"I'm wearin' awa', John, Like snaw wreaths in thaw, John, I'm wearin' awa' To the land o' the leal. There's nae sorrow there, John, There's neither cauld nor care, John, The day is aye fair In the land o' the leal.
Our bonnie bairn's there, John, She was bairth good and fair, John, And oh ! We grudged her sair To the land o' the leal. But sorrow's sel' wears past, John, And joy's a-comin fast, John, The joy that's aye to last In the land o' the leal.
Oh, haud ye leal and true, John, Your day it's wearin' through, John, And I'll welcome you To the land o' the leal. Now fare ye weel, my ain John, This warld's cares are vain, John, We'll meet, and we'll be fain In the land o' the leal. "

For those who would like to know how my Aunt' Wilma's funeral turned out ,When we reached the church in Fremont Nebraska the wind was a wee bit on the chilly side , but not like it was about 3 weeks . ago when the temperature could hardly get into the teens . I'll say it was between 25 , & 30 degrees ( a real heat wave ) in Fremont . Considering I was in my kilt , and was one of the pallbearers There was a piper from the OMAHA PIPES & DRUMS in the TARTAN of the QUEENS OWN CAMERON 79th ? HIGHLANDERS When we reached CEDAR HILL CEMETERY in Lancaster County ( Fremont is in Dodge County ) the Demetre was around 45 degrees . So it turned out to be a pretty decent day for a funeral in January considering what the weather could have been .I can tell my mother is taking it pretty hard even though she tries to put on a brave front . 2 years ago she lost a brother , and now her sister . As I mentioned before she , and a cousin are the only " Camerons " left of her generation

Interesting tidbits . When I used to fly from Omaha to the Rio Grand Highland Games in Albuquerque New Mexico . I would wear my kilt so as to make it easier for my sister who lived in Pio Rancho a 45 min. drive to the Highland Games to find me . As I was boarding the plane for my flight a stewardess asked me if I was heading for a highland game , and where was it ? As it turned out there was one a week before the one I was heading for , but she had to miss it for one reason , or another . I had a highland games schedule for that month , and she asked if I knew of any upcoming highland games . I gave her my games schedule , and told her she could keep it . She looked through the schedule , and came upon a highland game she wanted to mattend , and told me whatever it takes she was bound , and determined to go to that highland game . It turned out she was a Buchanan , I've also met an Anderson , and on my last flight to the games in Albuquerque , the check in agent spotted me in my nkilt and told me she was a McDonald , and asked me what my clan was . So if a trip is short flight wise wear a kilt on the plane . You never know what fellow Scots you might run into . Especially when it comes to the lassies . For me in my case the ones who were of Scottish decent alway took the time to have a wee chat with me . Anothe interestig tidbit . When I went to my browser I came across a reference to Scottish Dollars ( Coinage ) and Scottish Dollars ( family )

For those who likes to fish , and has a Labador Retriever I came across a article in a Dog Magazine that stated you can train a lab to catch fish . , but watch out your lab might catch more fish than you . This actually happened . Some years ago I was reading a article in " OUTDOOR LIFE " It was about a game warden who was making his rounds when he came upon a fisherman , and there was a bunch of fish biside him . The warden asked the fisherman how's fishing ? The fisherman replied that he wasn't having any luck . So the warden asked him what's all this fish on the bank ? The fisherman replied that his lab caught all those fish . The fisherman had to pay a fine for too many fish . Maybe he should have brought his lab a fishing lincence . ;D

Another tidibt . The very first reported instance of dogs being used in police work was in Scotland when police in Scotland started using Airdales . This was according to some information I've read about the breed . Another breed that I've found out that was first bred in Scotland is the Golden Retriever . I would like to hear from others regarding their Collies , Westies , Sheltyies , and other dog breeds of Scotland . My older brother had a Border -Collie mix who kept t trying to herd my nephew when he was very young . Talk about one frustrated kid .
