Can anyone assist me in trying to track down the Cameron history for South Africa? A very good friend is Ockert Michiel Cameron, named after his great grandfather, who was apparently banished to South Africa. At the same time his two brothers were banished to New Zealand and Australia respectively.
Thank you

Linda, do you have anything further re Ockert Michiel Cameron, that could possibly assist in the identification of his ancestor who came to Australia.
I have run the name through the Cameron Genealogy CD but there are no hits at all.
Would you say that the Michiel was Micheal? and do you have a year when he would have arrived in Australia.

As far as I know Ockert Michiel Cameron arrived in South Africa as a kid of about 12 years old in either 1812 or 1827. His other two brothers were sent to Australia and New Zealand respectively.
I know that this is not much to go on, but unfortunately it is all I have to go on.

Hi, I am also a South African Cameron. My father was James Finni Cameron. He had two older brothers Robert and John. If memory serves me right their father's name was Jamie and he was married to a Mary/Anne Queen. This was his second marriage I am not sure of the date of his arrival in SA. It must have been somewhere in the early 1900. He also brought to SA 3 daughters from a previouse marriage. I think one might have been called Ruby, but am not sure. All I know is that one was married to a South African Author. My grandfather worked on the mines and I believe he was an engineer. That is all I know. It would be great to learn more about my Scotish roots as I wish to visit Scotland in the near future. Janet
