Hi
I'm looking for info on Allan Cameron who married Christy McRae on 3rd June 1841 at Kintail, Ross and Cromarty. They had a daughter Catherine, born around 1849.
Thanks very much, Jim

Hi!Jim,
I am Sue Catterall, Vice President of Clan Cameron Association in NSW and I am an historian after graduating from University in Applied and Local History several years ago. I am currently doing my BA majoring in history. I saw your question as regard to Allan Cameron from Kintail. Kintail is where the McRae's were originally from not so much the Camerons.
I am a direct descendant of the McRae's of Kintail and I also have three different branches of Cameron's that connect to me here in NSW. I do have a copy of the McRae genealogies and history of my McRae's from Kintail. I will have a hunt for you to see if I can find anything without going through various records etc. and get back to you. Is Christy McRae a McRae from Kintail?
We are actually having a McRae gathering here in Armidale, NSW on April 12th and 13th, 2003 for my GGG grandparents John Roy McRae and Mary McLennan (Contin). Two of my Cameron branches will be present at this gathering. Marigold from Eilean Donan Castle will be attending along with her daughter Baroness Van Lynden and the Clan McRae President from America. They are expecting over 300 people to attend.
Regards
Sue Catterall ADLAH

Hi Sue,
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply ...
I think Allan Cameron moved around a lot, he was a shepherd. He was born in Glenshieldaig, Applecross, I think in about 1814, married in Kintail, and died in Trean, Bracadale, Isle of Skye, in 1895.
His death cert shows his father was Samuel Cameron, crofter, and his mother was Ann McGregor. Census returns for 1881 and 1891 in Bracadale show he was born in Applecross. I can find an OPR entry for an Alan Cameron born in Glenshieldaig, Applecross on the 17th March 1814, father Samuel Cameron, mother Janet McGregor. I don't know if this Janet and Ann are the same person. Christian (b. 1817) and Ewan (b. 1815) were brothers of this particular Alan.
Allan and Christy had a daughter Kate Cameron, christened in Killilan, Kintail on 31 July 1842. They had at least another 7 children.
Christy McRae was born in Bernera, Glenelg on the 7th Nov. 1821, father John McRae, mother Kate McLennan, who married in Glenshiel, Applecross on the 19th June 1805.
I also have another McRae connection, a Flora Macrae who married John Gillanders and lived in the Applecross/Lochcarron area. Flora was born sometime around 1771.
I'd love to hear if you know any more about these Camerons or McRaes.
Thanks, Jim
