Another tip , When packing clothes save those bags you get from your local laundry . So when you get ready to pack you then can put you clothes in bags , hang clthes over hook in bag . It'll help keep your shirts , & etc. neater .

Has anyone who is attending the Gathering 2009 in Edinburgh heard anything about -or received- their PASSPORTS yet? Word some time back was that they would be mailed 3 months in advance of the July 25/26 Gathering 2009. That puts the mailing in April. I have hear nothing, and have not yet received my PASSPORTS. However, the CLAN CAMERON 2009 Gathering Committee is doing a great job! I receive my tickets to all the Events in Lochaber 3 months ago! Best wishes to all!

I will not be attending the Gathering, although it would be thrilling to do so.
My father (deceased) was raised in Ft William and he spoke very little about his upbringing, he left there in 1948. His name was Eric Mackay Cameron, dob April 26, 1931. His mother's name was Jessie and she married a McPhail and raised four other children in Inverness.
I would love to know what my father's grandparents' given names were, they had a croft nearby Ft William and were of the Anglican faith. If you find out please tell me.
Cheers and have a bonnie time . Alysen Cameron

I just received a reply back from the folks at the Gathering 2009 headquarters in Edinburgh regarding when the PASSPORTS would be mailed. I have ordered and paid for two Silver Passports several months ago.
"... the passports will be posted out towards the middle of May, so you should receive those in mid to late June. We look forward to you joining us for the Gathering 2009." Signed, Coetzee Laubscher.
Hope this is helpful to all waiting delivery of their Passports.

For those who are planing to use a non- digital camera make sure you have enough film , and batteries . I plan to use 2 cameras 1 for Black , and White pictures which will make easier for those who would want to put them in your Clan Cameron Branch Newsletter . The other camera I'll be using will be for colored picture . Some will be in panorama , and if I'm lucky enough I might be able to take panorama pictures in Black & White . It all depends on the film I have in my camera at the time I take the pictures

Greetings Cameron Clansfolk, In just two months Cameron Clansfolk will gather at Achnacarry Castle and other locations in Lochaber to celebrate their collective heritage. The Clan Cameron Association is sending out this brief update to those who registered interest in attending, whether definite or tentative in their plans. 1) Admission Tickets: All events, except the Clan Cameron Association Scotland Branch Reception, require admission tickets. In that the numbers of tickets may be limited, we would strongly encourage you to obtain these in advance. Please visit: www.clancameron.org.uk/tickets.html 2) Cameron Clansmen's Oak Wood: A total of 40 oak trees have been planted just inside the entrance gates to the Lochiel Estate. As you may have heard individual trees may be sponsored or dedicated to ancestors and family members. Donations toward the collective costs are also being accepted. Just recently a beautiful bronze plaque was cast that will be placed into an Achnacarry stone, to mark the oak wood's entrance. Those interested in more details, or desiring to make a donation, may visit: www.clan-cameron.org/gathering/oakgrove.html 3) Schedule of Events: As of this time (please check back often for updates at: http://www.clancamerongathering.org) the following events are scheduled: www.clan-cameron.org/gathering/events.html 4) Social Networking: In advance of the Clan Cameron Gathering we would encourage you to communicate with your fellow clansfolk. When we come together at Achnacarry it is not only to continue established friendships, but also to form new ones. In addition to this section of the Clan Cameron Online Message Center, our Facebook page ( www.facebook.com/people/Theclan-Cameron/1638751458) is also a wonderful location to "unite." 5) Projected Attendance: Based solely on the registered interest form at least 700 Cameron Clansfolk will be attending the Clan Cameron Gathering. However, projected attendee estimates in the past have always been lower than what was realized, so considerably more are expected. Individuals and families from the following countries will be in attendance: - Scotland - England - Ireland - Wales - Australia - New Zealand - Canada - United States - South Africa - France - Spain - Greece - Netherlands - Phillippine Islands - United Arab Emirates 6) Clan Cameron Heritage Trail: This exciting initiative will be launched by Lochiel on 1st August, and a booklet will be available at the Clan Cameron Museum (and via download) at that time. 7) "Gathering Gear": A number of Clan Cameron Gathering items are now available via the Clan Cameron Association's Cafe Press site ( www.cafepress.com/clancameron). Additional Gathering items will be added as we approach July/August. See you in Lochaber!

A good question!
Generally speaking, "Day Wear" would be an Argyle jacket, leather sporran and non-white kilt socks. "Evening Wear" would be a Prince Charlie jacket, a horse hair or other fur sporran and white socks.
Packing only day wear might be the best advice for clansfolk - most events are outdoors.

Yesterday in the mail I received my June issue of the " SCOTTISH BANNER " in it there was an article saying that the wearing of sporrans made of sealskin is now banned . I've sent a PM to Thomas for mor information on the subject as I have a Leopard Seal Sporran that I brought in 1976 with my first kilt . He advised me to leave it at home just to be on the safe side . So for those who have a sealskin sporran you might have to get another one to bring to Scotland instead . It's better to be safe than sorry .

At lest 3 weeks before leaving for the Clan cameron Gathering check the following see if your local bank has a foreign exchange department , most bank in major cities do , chek with the A.A.A. , your travel agent , and even go on-line . Get at least $ 100.00 worth of British Pounds just nin case their foreign exchange bureau is closed when you arrive , their ATM.s are down , or if you happen to arrive on a Bank Holiday , and the banks are closed .That way you'll have cash on hand for any unexpected emergancies , taxi's, & etc.

Aonaibh Ri Chéile! One month from today the Clan Cameron will gather at Achnacarry Castle. Please review the following details if you are planning on attending: UPDATED PROGRAMME: There are no notable changes (event dates and times still stand as they did one month ago). However, the venue of the Clan Cameron Ceilidh (taking place on the evening of 1st August) has now been set. It will be held on the grounds of Achnacarry, under the large marquee. Additionally, due to anticipated traffic problems along the main road into Achnacarry, the Dedication/Blessing of the Cameron Clansmen’s Oak Wood will be done on the main field of Achnacarry at Noon, 1st August. Clansfolk are welcome to visit the oak wood (a large stone, inlaid with a beautiful bronze plaque, notes the entrance), but are encouraged to do so prior to or after Saturday, 1st August. Parking for access to the oak wood is just outside and to the side of the gates of Achnacarry or across the road from the gates (there is no shoulder along the narrow access road into Achnacarry to park on), with a brief walk necessitated through the gates and along the access road. Anticipate typical rolling terrain within the oak wood, so please take suitable precautions. OAK WOOD (AN DOIRE): All previously planted oak trees (43 in total) at the Cameron Clansmen’s Oak Wood have now been sponsored and/or spoken for; no further tree dedications will be accepted this year. Many thanks to all participating clansfolk, for assisting in making this project come to life, and for such a meaningful, unified gift for Lochiel. The oak wood may expand in years to come – details will be put forth in the months to come. TICKETS: All Clan Cameron Gathering events require a reasonable admission charge, and ticketing must be secured in advance. If you haven’t ordered your tickets yet, please do so now. They may be reserved (for pick-up at the Gathering) via: www.clancamerongathering.org LODGING: Summertime in Lochaber, always a busy season in the Outdoor Capital of Scotland. While many establishments are already filled to capacity, several may still have availability. We are unable to offer any suggestions at this late time, and the web will be your best source of information. If for any reason you have not secured lodging, please consider doing so immediately. Generally speaking, the further outside of Fort William one looks, the better chances of finding a room there would be. GATHERING GEAR: The Clan Cameron Association has developed three unique designs (two recently added) specifically as “Gathering Gear” for adults and children. Clothing is branded with the “Clan Cameron Gathering” event name, along with Clan Cameron arrows, tartan, Lochaber axes and even the old clan symbol, the “Dexter Arm.” These are now all featured at our Cafepress site ( www.cafepress.com/clancameron). With manufacturing facilities in the UK, Australia, Canada and the U.S., shipping is quite quick, so there’s still time to receive that special keepsake shirt or hat, noting your attendance at the Clan Cameron Gathering. TRANSPORTATION: Many queries have been received regarding transport to and from Clan Cameron Gathering events. Unfortunately, a coach or shuttle bus will not be provided to the grounds, but there are always local taxi and private hire options (check with your lodging proprietor). We would also encourage attendees to continue networking via our social web resources (Clan Cameron Message Centre and the Clan Cameron Association’s Facebook website…www.facebook.com/clancameron) for ride sharing. GENERAL NOTE: Depending on your mobile/cellular phone carrier, coverage may be limited in certain areas of Lochaber. There are several “dead zones” near Achnacarry. However, there is a prominent phone box located adjacent to the Clan Cameron Museum’s parking lot, for those needing to contact the outside world. EDINBURGH: While not a part of the Clan Cameron Gathering, many clansfolk are also attending the Gathering of the Clans, in Edinburgh, the weekend prior to our event. For those planning on attending, there will be a Clan Cameron Homecoming Pre-Dinner Reception held at 6:30PM on 24th July, at the New Club (86 Princes Street, Edinburgh – between Foot Locker and H&M). An open invitation to all those coming from overseas and UK Cameron Clansfolk is extended. Dress code for this event is strictly NOT CASUAL. Denim, trainers, and mini-skirts are not acceptable at this venue. For ladies, trousers and suitable, and men are required to wear a jacket. Kilts are most acceptable. That’s all for the time being, and a final update will only be made if there are notable pieces of news to relate. Have a safe trip to Lochaber and don’t forget to pack your tartan!

I suggest to all those attending the Gathering at Achnacarry that they check the Clan Cameron Association - Scotland Branch website (Link is on the Clan Cameron home page). Alan Cameron has posted the Official Gathering Brochure/Schedule, which you can download and print. Also, to agrona (above) --- My Grandmother, whom I never knew, was a Clark. The Camerons have welcomed me most warmly and with an open hand of friendship like a long-lost brother! So, I would urge you to make every effort to join us at Achnacarry July 30-31 and August 1 & 2 and experience that unique Cameron warmth and hospitality !!!! Slainte, AYE! I am aware that hotel rooms are quickly filling up (if not already full) in the Fort William area around the gathering. I have just (today) re-confirmed my room reservations at the Clan McDuff Hotel overlooking Loch Linnhe (stayed here for the last gathering) and they have confirmed that they currently have some rooms available during the gathering. See the following site for details. www.clanmacduff.co.uk/
